Earlier this year to celebrate the 1916 centenary (the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 rising) some soldiers from the Irish army visited our school.

It was so interesting. We made a big circle in the yard while they stood in the centre and talked to us about their lives as soldiers and about the Proclamation and the heroes of the 1916 rising. All the parents were invited along too. We learned lots. A lucky girl in 6th class read out some of the proclamation for us all and we all sang our National Anthem proudly.

Finally we were presented with a copy of the Proclamation and a big Irish flag. It was a great day.

A special thank you to Paddy who led the soldiers into our school yard playing the bag pipes.
