CONFIRMATION: - Congratulations to all 6th class students who made their Confirmation on Friday the 22nd of April. The girls confirmed were – Ann Marie Moorehouse (Rathnew), Ellie Taglient, Tiana Doyle Delaney, Caitlin Kavanagh, Sarah Haughton, Shannon Goulding, Caroline Snell, Kacey Murphy, Abbie Doyle, Eva Dowling, Bella Doyle, Kiva Doyle, Ann Marie Moorehouse (Ashford), Shakur Quinn, Lynsey Sayer, Katie Forsyth, Megan O’Brien the weather was good and they had a lovely day.  On Monday they came to school dressed in their Confirmation clothes.  They were admired by all- so beautiful and so grown up looking.

SCHOOL SECURITY GATE: When parents are buzzed in at the gate can you please go to the staff room and not to your child’s classroom as this is very disruptive to teaching.

GYMNASTICS: Girls are doing gymnastics this term.  Parents who are paying by the term should forward €10 to cover the gymnastics to end of June.

FIRST COMMUNION: Girls from  St.Joseph’s made their First Holy Communion in St. Joseph’s church, Rathnew on Sunday 8th May. They were Christina Moorehouse, Erin Cox,Chloe O’Connor, Alannah Knowles Doyle, Erin Killeen, Aislinn Farrell Eager, Georja Coster, Clara Earls, Layla O’Connor, Holly Doyle, Skye Kehoe, Ciara Rose Plunkett, Sarah Hunter. They did their readings and other tasks wonderfully well. Thanks to the choir who sang so beautifully.  Refreshments were served afterwards in the hall.  Heartfelt thanks to all the parents and friends who prepared the children so wll and helped out with refreshments. Thanks also to the organist Ann Morris, Ms Cahill and class teacher Ms. Sumner.

WRITE A BOOK: Award ceremony took place in Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel on 25th April.  This years winners were Kayla Kearney Jnr Inf, Julia Gresko Snr Inf, Kaylynn Redmond 1st class, Holly Doyle 2nd class, Mary Kate Moorehouse 3rd class, Holly O’Connor 4th Class, Abi Doyle 5th Class and Eva Dowling 6th class.  Well done girls!

NEW ENROLMENTS FOR 2016: Enrolments took place on 25th April to 28th.  If you know anyone who missed these dates please ask them to contact the school to put their daughter or son’s name down for September 2016.

VISIT TO COLÁISTE CHILL MHANTÁIN: Girls in 6th class will be visiting Coláiste Chill Mhantáin during school time on Tuesday 24th May as part of our transition programme.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION: The Corpus Christi Procession will take place on Sunday 29th May at 3pm. Communion children can dress in their communion clothes and walk in the procession accompanied /supervised by parents.

CARA AWARDS:The girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class will be doing their violin exam on 1st June.  They should continue to practice and every Wednesday bring in the violin so Rebecca can tune them. Please contribute €7.50 towards the cost if you have not already done so.

SPONSORED WALK: The walk this year will take place to Broadlough on the 13th June weather permitting.  We will leave the school at 10am.  Parents are welcome to join us.  A text will be sent out. Each family will receive a sponsored card which is numbered and school stamp on back.  ALL cards should be returned to the school even if they are not full.

AWARDS DAY: Awards day will be on Wednesday 29th June at 11am. Graduation Mass for the 6th class girls will take place in St. Joseph’s church at 7.30pm on the 29th June followed by refreshments in St. Josephs school.

SPORTS DAY: Friday 17th June at 10am in GAA pitch weather permitting.  All parents are invited.

CHORAL CONCERT:The school choir will give a recital on Friday 24th June in the hall at 11.15am. All are welcome.

DIOCESAN ADVISOR: They will visit each class on Friday 10th June.  Please revise you child’s prayers with them.

PIRLS TESTING: Children from 4th class were among a group chosen nationally to take part in this international literacy test.  They used netbooks to complete the activities.

SWIMMING: Swimming has proved very popular this year and the children have enjoyed their lessons hugely as well as learning a very important new skill.

ST. COEN’S: Our new school uniform is blue. It was very close between the blue and wine while green did not prove popular.A big thank you to Eamonn White for designing our new school crest.  It is a globe which represents a window to the world and the adventure of learning.  An open book sits across the globe representing the opportunities that learning gives us.  Learning can bring you anywhere in the world- in fact and in your imagination.  The laurel wreaths around the globe signify the Olympics and our wish to do our best in everything as well as trying out different things and finding out what we are best at.

OMG RATHNEW: A big thank you to OMG Rathnew for their donation of €1,000 to the new school St. Coen’s (the first for the new school).  This was money raised from Rathnew’s Got Talent which was a wonderful display of local talent.  Congratulations to Nan Ann O’Brien who was the winner on the night.
