PRIMARY DEBATING: Our debating team were successful in their last debate against Harolds Cross school, Glasthule.  They are now through to round three.  We are all very proud of them.  Their next debate is “ipads should replace all schoolbooks”.  They are proposing the motion against Convent of Mercy Booterstown.

SCHOOL ABSENCES:It is very important that children attend school every day and for the whole school day.  A child who misses school starts to fall behind. She then loses heart and begins to think she is no good at school.  Any absences or early leaving must be reported in writing.  Figures are compiled on a weekly basis.

CHRISTMAS FAIR:This year we are organising a Christmas Fair to raise much needed funds for your daughter’s school.  It will take place on Friday 6th December in St. Brigid’s Hall from 10am. We are asking for your help……

BOOKFAIR:

The book fair was very successful this year and the school obtained over €450 worth of books free for the school. It helps us renew our library stock and encourages children to read. Thank you for your support!

PARENTS ASSOCIATION AGM:Thanks to the Parents who turned up for the AGM on 14th October.  We will be running fundraising events over the school year.  Any member of the committee will update you on these.

TREE DAY:

Repot: On the 10th of October 2013, 3rd and 4th class went to Glendalough for world tree day.  First, we went  on a treasure hunt.  Next, we guessed the exact age of a tree and won 2 nature books for the class.  The tree was 108 yeas old ! WELCOME:

We extend a warm welcome to all our students especially to our new Junior Infants. We have all settled into the new school year very quickly.  It’s hard to believe the month of September is over already.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

Children wear their full school uniform every day including shoes.  They wear their school tracksuit on Monday for dancing and on their P.E. day.  Please label your child’s clothes.  If your child arrives home without their jumper etc. Please alert the school immediately.

STUDENT DETAILS:

It is extremely important you notify the school of any change of address contact numbers etc.  Otherwise we cannot contact you if your child is ill or /and you won’t receive school text messages.

SCHOOL TOURS:

All tours were a great success, Fifth and Sixth classes went to Jamie Oliver’s Restraint and Oz in the cinema on Tuesday 18th June. First to Fourth went to Gravity in Wexford on Monday 10th June. Jnr and Snr Infants went to Imaginosity.  All had a wonderful day

FIRST COMMUNION:

Girls and Boys from St. Joseph’s and St. Ernan’s made their First Holy Communion in St. Joseph’s church, Rathnew on Saturday 18th May. They were Chelsey Clare, Millie Collard, Sarah Jane Connors, Hollie Culhane Mowlds , Abi Doyle, Katie Gregory, Sadie Harte, Áine Hill, Kaitlin Kearney, Naoise Kelly, Cara Kenny, Esther Kinsella, Kiva Jameson, Amie Quinn and Amy Ronan.They did their readings and other tasks wonderfully well.  Thanks to all the choir who sang so beautifully.  Refreshments were served afterwards in the school.  Thanks to all the parents and friends who prepared and helped out at children’s communion party, choir party and served the adults. Thanks also to the organist Ann Morris, and teacher Ms. Sumner who prepared the girls for the sacraments.

CORPUS CHRIST PROCESSION: -

This is the longest standing Corpus Christi Procession in the country and everybody is encouraged to attend.  Communion children can dress in their communion clothes and walk in the procession accompanied /supervised by parents. The Procession will take place on Sunday 2nd June at 4pm.

GREEN FLAG:

Eva Franey, Eve Gregory and Ms. O’Shea represented the school at an award ceremony in Croke Park on Wednesday 22nd where we received our 4th Green Flag.  Thanks to all who walked, cycled or flickered their way to school on Wednesdays. A special word of thanks to Ms O’Shea who co-ordinated all events throughout the year and to the Green School Committee- Jade O’Loughlin, Ester Kinsella, Ellie Taglienti, Natasha Nolan, Eve Gregory,  Eva Franey, Tracey Gregory and Claire Hunter.
